Trash the Dress – Europe

When I started photography as a hobby who knew it was going to turn into a
complete obsession for me. A fact to which my neglected (if you were to
believe him) husband will attest.

Based in Northern Ireland I consider myself a newbie to photography even
though I have been shooting seriously for at least 4 years. I am a firm
believer in the more you know the more you know you don’t know. I view every
session as a unique chance to capture moments for a bride, or child, or
occasional, languid morning cow found hanging their head over my fence
sniffing suspiciously at my demented dog. Each click is an opportunity to
enhance my skills and expand my creativity. I truly don’t think I will ever
stop learning and loving phototography and the thrill of seeing the final
result.

My style is very casual and falls into the photojournalistic category. As a
member of the WPJA for me it’s all about capturing the fleeting moments
rather then ensuring perfect posture and exposure for every shot.

Alwyn, a recent bride wanted to use a farm theme for her Trash the Dress
(TTD) session.

The entire day of her wedding, Alwyn could not be found without her smile
proclaiming she was the cat who got the cream. So for contrast, we wanted
to do something totally different moody with a lot of sassy attitude for her
TTD session. She literally threw herself into this and, as you’ll see, the
wheelbarrow!

Here are the results of a day down on the farm.

Earlier this year we were in Cyprus for a couple of weeks during which time Paul & I shot what you might call an “epic” TTD session. We started shooting in Limassol where we found an old, derelicte factory & whilst driving to the mountains we spotted a couple of places along the way so of course we had to stop! Once we reached Prodromos we shot some images in an abandonned (& most definitely haunted!) hotel and then got a little lost along some dirt roads but finally ended up at very small waterfall to finish the day off. Sarah, the bride, was a pleasure to work with throughout the day!

This session was another one that ended up with a pristine dry-cleaned dress so for those of you thinking about having a session remember, “Trash the Dress” is a catchy buzz phrase but your photographer will only go as far as you want them to go to get your images, even if it is just stopping at a bit of dirty hem in an unusual location!

A couple of stops along the way:

Trash the dress has also become very famous in Germany and expanded to a new trend. Our brides cherish the great fun combined with some really extraordinary wedding photos.

The brides in these pictures, Caroline and Nadine, were totally enthusiastic when we suggested a trash the dress shooting. The thought of destroying their dresses never annoyed them. The session took place at an old industry and harbor area as well as at a lonesome part of the Rhein-river. It was no doubt that both of our brides really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun while rolling around in the mud. And we had just as much fun while photographing.
